My favorite gemstone jewelry this spring - and why I chose it for you
Every spring I do the same thing. I get out my jewelry box, place the pieces next to the clothes I wear this time of year, and ask myself: what do I want to wear now?
This is often not the same as the previous season. Nor is it what's in a magazine, but what feels good and comfortable for the moment. The feeling that you want to add a little more color again.
This year, my answers for spring are mainly these four gemstones: smoky quartz, pearls, peridot, and citrine. I'm not going to tell you they're the "best." But I will explain why I chose them, how you can wear them, and (perhaps most importantly) when each stone suits you.
Choosing gemstone jewelry for spring isn't about trends. It's about a feeling for color, for what you want to grab daily, and for what truly complements what you're wearing and what suits you.
Why the season matters for gemstone jewelry
Gemstones are timeless, that's true. A good ring will still be worn ten years from now. But when you wear it, and why it feels right then, does shift with the seasons.
What changes in spring is color temperature. Your clothing shifts from dark and heavy to lighter, softer, more open. The colors you wear naturally become fresher: beige, white, soft blue, cream, light green. And the jewelry that screams above that or is too heavy just doesn't work as well.
That's not a rule. But it's a feeling that many people recognize if they stop to think about it.
The four stones I chose this season each connect to the spring palette in their own way. Some very soft and neutral. Others full of color, but never too much.
Smoky Quartz: the stone that goes with everything

Smoky quartz is perhaps the most underestimated gemstone in my collection. Not because it's inconspicuous with its beautiful, warm brown tone, but because it's so incredibly easy to wear and combine.
That warm, slightly transparent brown tone suits almost every skin tone and nearly all clothing colors. Smoky quartz doesn't clash with anything; it blends with whatever you're wearing, whether it's a white linen blouse, a beige trench, or a faded denim jacket.
In spring, that's exactly what you sometimes look for: something that completes without dominating.
Smoky quartz is also one of the few gemstones that can be beautifully combined with both gold and silver. I always wear gold myself, as it suits me better as an autumn type. Gold also beautifully warms the brown tone of smoky quartz; the overall effect becomes truly soft and earthy.
When smoky quartz suits you: If you like wearable, neutral jewelry that you can grab every day without thinking. If your wardrobe contains many earthy tones. If you're just starting with gemstone jewelry and are looking for something that always works.
When it might not: If you're looking for something that truly stands out or makes a clear color statement. Smoky quartz is beautiful, but subtle by nature.
In my collection, you'll find smoky quartz in various forms: from the Nila gold ring with an oval smoky quartz gemstone to the Flore flowercup earrings with smoky quartz and the Riva wavy edge silver earrings with smoky quartz. The Nila ring is one of my personal favorites; the oval stone in a serene gold setting is just right.

Pearls: timeless is not boring
Pearls may have a slight image problem. They are associated with formality, your grandmother, or special occasions. That's a real shame, because a modern pearl, worn in a simple or even playful setting, is one of the easiest everyday jewelry pieces.
What makes pearls special is their luster. Not shimmering like a mirror, but soft and deep. They catch light in a way that radiates warmth. In spring, with that specific soft daylight of April and May, that is incredibly beautiful.
There's also something organic about pearls that other gemstones don't have. They are formed in a living organism. A mollusk that builds up layers of nacre around a nucleus. That origin gives them a warmth that mineral stones simply don't possess.
I prefer to combine pearls somewhat loosely, with a casual outfit, a simple white blouse, or even just an oversized sweater. That's when the contrast really comes into its own.
What to look for when choosing pearls:
- Gold gives pearls a warmer appearance; silver makes them cooler and more classic
- A small pearl in a subtle setting is easier to wear during the day than a large, striking pearl
- Pearls combine well with other gemstones: consider adding blue topaz or peridot for a fresh spring effect

Pearls are timeless, but far from boring. Worn loosely with a casual outfit, they make more of an impression than at any formal occasion. That contrast is precisely where their magic lies.
In my collection, pearls come in many different designs. The Uma pearl drop earrings with peridot gemstones in silver are a personal highlight: the combination of pearl and peridot is exactly the spring feeling I'm looking for. The Ava ring with a round pearl in silver or gold is perfect if you want to wear pearls subtly. Small, round, understated. And the Faye wavy gold drop-shaped pearl stud earrings are for when you want something with a little more character than a classic pearl stud.
